As he was unable to join us for the in-person festival, TCAF Director Amie Wright spoke with Palestinian political cartoonist, visual artist, and TCAF 2026 Featured Guest Mohammad Saba'aneh—and Street Noise Books publisher Liz Frances—about his new graphic novel, "Welcome to Hell: From the West Bank to Gaza."
Mohammad shared the deeply personal story behind the book, including his brother's detention in an Israeli prison following October 7th, and how he uses comics to document life under occupation and bear witness to ongoing violence in Gaza.
Liz reflected on why Street Noise was founded to amplify exactly these kinds of firsthand, visually-driven accounts. Together, they made the case for comics journalism and graphic memoir as tools of truth-telling and resistance.
"Welcome to Hell" will be available at Street Noise's table (Table 280) at TCAF 2026, June 6–7 in Toronto, and online for pre-order now.
