Embark on a creative journey with our family-friendly drawing and writing workshop led by author and illustrator Hilary Leung. We'll build an intergalactic bestiary book, filled with fantastical creatures dreamed up by everyone.

Cara Bean - Pen, Pencil, Ruler, Eraser: Figuring Out Your Drawing Personality

Join artist Cara Bean (author of Here I Am, I Am Me: An Illustrated Guide to Mental Health and Draw 500 Funny Faces and Features) in this mindfulness doodling workshop. After a presentation about drawing personalities, Cara will guide participants through a series of calming, mindful drawing exercises.

Josh Rosen - Time Travel Drawings

We’ve all heard a picture is worth a thousand words. But can a picture also be worth a thousand…YEARS? Join cartoonist Josh Rosen (History Comics: World War II, The Good Fight) and draw along, in a series of time bending activities about exploring history through comics.

Jonathan Todd, author and illustrator of TIMID, will discuss how he approaches putting together a page of a graphic novel and you'll practice plotting out your own stories. Ages 9+

Christine D.U Chung & Salwa Majoka -Wordless Comics Workshop

Join Christine D.U. Chung and Salwa Majoka for a fun-filled wordless comic workshop! The two author-illustrators will share work from their debut wordless graphic novel Viewfinder and demonstrate how to make a short wordless comic based on a given prompt.

Gene Luen Yang - How to Write from Life and History

Gene Luen Yang, author of American Born Chinese, Saints & Boxers, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Superman, leads you through an exploration of building stories from your own life, from history, and from your imagination.

Isabel Greenberg -Illuminated Manuscript Comics

Isabel Greenberg, author of new YA graphic novel Young Hag, will help you make your very own illuminated manuscript comic. Bring your own myth, or use one provided. Isabel will provide a worksheet base and a number of collage elements for you to embellish your own drawings with. Ages 12+

Have you ever wanted to create your own book? All by yourself, with no pesky editors or publishers? Then welcome to the world of zines (pronounced "zeen")! Learn the basics of zine creation with artist Micah Chu, and bring home one of your own.

Nancy Vo - Reading & Stenciling/Collage Demo

Stencils and collage can help you create beautiful pictures to accompany your stories! Nancy Vo, creator of Boobies, will do a short reading, demo, and Q&A.

Meggie Ramm - Emanata: The Secret Code of Comics

Learn how to make superheroes fly and pies smell delicious! Meggie Ramm, creator of BatCat & BatCat: Sink or Swim, will teach you about the lines and symbols that cartoonists use to make motion and emotion in comics.

Nidhi Chanani - Drawing Comics

What makes a story? How can you tell a story in a few panels? Come to this fun and informative workshop and learn the art of comics storytelling with acclaimed cartoonist Nidhi Chanani, author of Pashmina, Jukebox, Super Boba Cafe and the Shark Princess series.

Minnie Phan - Colour Theory with Crayons

Colours shape our world. Learn the basics in this workshop where we will create a colour wheel and then create art with colour with illustrator and designer Minnie Phan, co-creator of Simone.

Join creator B.C. Peterschmidt for a brief presentation about the pillars of a successful fictional world—then it's time to create! In your world, you make the rules. Now, let's see what you can do with that mighty brain of yours!
