TCAF is excited to announce our keynote speaker for our first ever one-day Academic Symposium: Dr. Benjamin Woo!
The TCAF Academic Symposium, "Histories & Futures of Comics Communities," presents scholarship on comics in a publicly accessible forum.
The first-ever TCAF Academic Symposium is a one-day, in-person event spotlighting scholarly research on comics in a publicly accessible forum. The symposium features leading voices in Comics Studies presenting original research in the form of conference papers and posters and engaging in scholarly roundtables on major topics in the field. The theme of the symposium is “Histories and Futures of Comics Communities.” Comics are communities, and communities are comics; the strength of one is the strength of the other. The symposium’s presenters will consider what comics communicate and how and where they might communicate better to make comics communities more inclusive, accessible, and dynamic. Each panel includes space for audience questions and discussion.
The symposium will be held on Friday, June 17th, from 9am-5pm, at the Courtyard Marriott hotel in downtown Toronto. Comics scholars, fans, creators, and newcomers are welcome.
The event is free to attend, but registration is required (deadline to register is May 22). Click here to register now! Masking is encouraged. Complimentary masks and sanitizing stations will be provided.
