11 AM: Comics In The Academy: Wish comics were taught more widely and well in schools? Want to see your favourite comics artists represented on University reading lists? Think the Academy should keep its paws off the format? Come out and have your say as part of this year’s new academic event.

TCAF is pleased to welcome comics expert and University of Calgary professor BART BEATY who will be delivering a short keynote address on the current state of Comics Scholarship, followed by a lively roundtable discussion with other panelists and audience members. Listen to what some of our leading comics scholars have to say about the emerging critical vocabulary for teaching comics in schools. Be part of this exciting field-- contribute your own thoughts!

12:30 PM: Steven Guarnaccia, New School: Steven Guarnaccia is a Art Director for the Op-Ed page of The New York Times, part of the founding faculty for SVA's MFA Design Program, and a member of the American Institute of Graphic Artists (AIGA) and Alliance Graphique Internationale. He has also Chaired the Objects of Design jury at the AIGA, and been a member of illustration juries for American Illustration, the Society of Illustrators, and the AIGA. He's going to talk about why he's proud to be a teacher at Parsons fledgling comic book and graphic novel program in at New York's New School, and why you should be attending.

11AM: Reading: Chester Brown: LOUIS RIEL creator Chester Brown reprises his standing-room only career overview, last presented at the Toronto Public Library's Graphic Novel exhibit. Features readings from comics throughout Chester's distinguished career.

12PM: Young Cartoonists Readings: Featuring Paul Hornschemeier and Leslie Stein. The Toronto Comic Arts Festival is proud to present readings from two of the most interesting and critically lauded young cartoonists working today. Paul Hornschemeier is the creator of the FORLORN FUNNIES series, and the graphic novellas MOTHER, COME HOME and BIG HEAD. Leslie Stein is the creator of the Xeric-Grant winning short work YEAH, IT IS.

1PM Reading: Paul Pope: Called "The Jim Morrison of Comics", Paul Pope presents his work and worldview in a special reading. In association with The Silver Snail.

2PM: Paul Pope & James Jean: About Illustration: Noted illustrator James Jean joins Paul Pope on stage to discuss illustration and comics, and how they interact in the North American comic industry.

3PM: Reading: Dave Sim Presents: CEREBUS LIVE! - Dave Sim tries his hand at a comic book “reading”, if it goes well, he may just do it again sometime. We all know what Lord Julius sounds like, but did you know that Dave wrote most of the Cerebus dialogue by speaking it aloud. Now you can hear what all of the characters are supposed to sound like. Following the presentation, Dave will be signing in Front of The Beguiling .

4PM: This Is Not A Reading Series Presents: The Harvey Christians- Brought to you by the creators of the Harvey Christ Radio Hour, a live weekly radio show produced by a collective and heard on CKUT 90.3FM in Montreal since October 2000. Inspired by gospel radio, the Harvey Christians offer sermons and storytelling , hymns, baptisms, exorcisms, barn burning, etc.... They satirize dogmatic beliefs--whether religious, political or pop cultural--and seek to mix the serious with the bizarre as an antidote to mainstream radio and religion. Their collected teachings will be released by Cumulus Press in May 2005 under the title The Dead Beat Scrolls.

7PM: An Appreciation of Doug Wright , Presented by Seth: Named for the prolific creator of the classic Canadian comic strip Doug Wright’s Family, the awards aim to recognise outstanding work published by Canadian cartoonists in 2004. The awards presentation will occur Saturday evening at The Victory Café, and will feature a presentation on the life and work of Doug Wright by respected graphic novelist Seth. Seating will be limited.

8:30PM: Evening Events Featuring Eiland (Tobias Schalken and Stefan van Dinther) and Phoebe Gloeckner: Following the Doug Wright awards will be fantastic presentations from TCAF's honoured guests Tobias Schalken and Stefan van Dinther (the duo known as EILAND) and noted illustrator, teacher, and graphic novelist Phoebe Gloeckner.
